Agronomist - Crop Analyst Job


  • Qualifications: MSc, PhD - Agriculture or Horticulture with specialization in Agronomy
    Experience: Freshers to 8 years of experience. Job profile and the package will be commensurate with experience




    Location: Based in New Delhi with approx 2-3 months of travel every year for assessing crop situation across the country
    Preference: Candidates who are fluent in written English AND have decent Hindi speaking skills AND is fluent in 1 or more of the following languages: Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi.
    Profile:
    We require 4-5 agronomists/crop analysts (junior to senior) to estimate area, yield and production of various agricultural and horticultural crops in India. Candidate should be able to estimate area, yield and production of various crops in the ongoing season (Kharif & rabi) through field-based crop surveys, secondary research and by interacting with knowledgeable sources in the Industry. The candidate will be required to produce detailed reports on 1) Acreage - Report should give detailed state & district wise sown area estimates soon after the sowing is completed. 2) Crop Condition - During the growth phase of the crops, periodic reports on the crop condition in different states/districts including the effect of weather and pest/disease on crop condition 3) Crop Yield - Prior to harvest, the candidate should publish detailed reports giving the state-wise/district-wise yields of the crops with proper justifications.




    Candidate should have expert knowledge of crop agronomy, crop growth stages, water and weather requirements in different plant growth stages, estimate the impact on crop yield due to weather, pests & diseases, variety sown, etc. For this purpose, candidate must be willing to periodically travel to personally assess crop situation as required. For large surveys, field teams would be provided for interviewing farmers, traders and other sources through structured questionnaires. Candidate would be required to work closely with these field teams and monitor their activity and quality of work. Candidate should be able to analyze large amounts of survey data in Excel or other statistical software such as SPSS/Stata/etc to calculate area, yield and production. Candidate would also work closely with our Satellite/Remote Sensing based crop estimation team and provide inputs to our market intelligence team.
    Senior Crop Analysts should be able to manage teams, projects and interface with clients to give them presentations of the findings.
