Essential

• PhD in Agriculture (Crop and Soil Sciences, Agronomy) or Agro-meteorology with at least 3 years post-Ph.D. experience, including work on relevant aspects of climate services or climate adaptation for smallholder agriculture.
• Demonstrated expertise in research and implementation of climate services for agriculture, potentially including communications and institutional aspects.
• Demonstrated expertise in implementing, monitoring and analyzing agronomic trials.
• Demonstrated capabilities in project or program management, including: supervision of project-based personnel, ensuring collaboration and coordination of project activities among partners, monitoring managing project resources, and reporting project results.
• Very strong analytical skills, with knowledge of GIS/remote sensing and crop modelling and the use of common statistical software packages, including climate analysis packages (e.g. Instat, SPSS, SAS, STATA, Genstat).
• Strong organizational skills, client orientation and communication skills, and an ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
• The ability to build relationships with donors, governments and NGOs. Demonstrated expertise in research and implementation of climate services for agriculture, potentially including communications and institutional aspects.
• Good publication record, as evidenced by senior authored research papers in refereed journals.

Desirable

• Demonstrated ability to write proposals and fund raise.
• Experience in participatory action research with farming communities in southern Africa.
