Agriculture Field Supervisor

Job Location-Vellore Campus

Education:

Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, horticulture or related field

Key Responsibilities:

Directly supervise and coordinate activities of agricultural farm workers.

Assign duties, such as tilling soil, planting, irrigating, harvesting, storing crops, and maintaining machines.

Determine number and kind of workers needed to perform required work, and schedules activities.

Observe workers to detect inefficient and unsafe work procedures or identify problems, and initiates actions to correct improper procedure or solve problem.

Issue farm implements and other inputs to workers and collects them at end of workday.

Investigate grievances and settles disputes to maintain harmony among workers.

Requisition and purchase of farm supplies, such as bio-pesticides, manures, seeds, seedlings, bio-fertilizers, machine parts or lubricants, and tools.

To work in close co-ordination with various stakeholders like the Agriculture Department/School, agriculture students, Management, workers, various agriculture related government departments etc.

Confer with manager to evaluate weather and soil conditions and to develop and revise plans and procedures.

Prepare time, payroll, and production reports, such as farm conditions, amount of yield, machinery breakdowns, and labor problems.

Direct or assist in adjustment, repair, and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment.

Train workers in methods of field work and safety regulations, and briefs them on identifying characteristic of insects and diseases.

Manage the recruitment, hiring, deployment, availability and discharge of workers.

Inspect crops and fields to determine maturity, yield, infestation, or work requirements, such as cultivating, irrigating, spraying, weeding, or harvesting

Experience:

Proven record of at least 3-5 years of working experience in the agriculture and supervision of agriculture.

Requirements:

Initiative and flexibility.

Good communication and analytical skills.

Commercial awareness.

Strong compliance awareness with regard to government regulations and health and safety standards

Up-to-date knowledge of pests and diseases, crop cultivation package of practices

The ability to apply technical knowledge of the environment and legislation/public policy matters in a practical environment.

Marketing and sales skills.
